Who’s behind
Associazione Faro Astesana
Astesana is a “community of communities”: a network structured as an association, which makes itself available to new Heritage Communities in the area to offer organisational support, guidance and the sharing of best practices.
Faro Astesana‘s mission is to rediscover, promote and protect the historical and cultural heritage of the city of Asti and its historical territory: the Astesana. This heritage is often confused with that of Monferrato, although they are two distinct historical entities, each with its own identity and different path of development.
The exclusion of Astesana from the official name of the UNESCO site ‘Vineyard Landscapes of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato’ in 2014 gave rise to the need for greater recognition and awareness, not only in terms of promotion and tourism, but also from a cultural and civic perspective.
In addition to supporting the creation of new Heritage Communities in villages, districts and symbolic locations in the area, Faro Astesana is also active in promoting and raising awareness on a broader level, with the aim of highlighting the uniqueness and value of the entire Asti area.
The Authors
Francesco “QiQQo” Pellitteri is the mastermind behind the game. On the one hand, he is the technician who solves every problem related to layout, printing and logistics (yes, he’s the one who balances the books). On the other hand, he is the creative mind who developed most of the mechanics and functioning of the game. He is the more “experienced” of the two, but also the more unpredictable: full of crazy ideas and always ready to embark on new adventures.
Fabio “Febus” Maiolo is the artistic hand. He gave the game a whole new aesthetic, fun and ironic, drawing the illustrations with an unique style. Interpreting QiQQo’s ideas, he also helped improve and refine some aspects of the game.
They met at work about fifteen years ago and immediately hit it off, thanks to their shared peculiarities (some might call them quirks, but we like them that way). They have collaborated on several projects, including a surreal team of sumo wrestlers who do things like play tchoukball or run the StraAsti race (you may have seen them a few years ago; to find out more, follow WASABI)
Their paths diverged, but their friendship remained. And it is thanks to the strength of this bond that today we can run together in the new edition of Il Gioco del Palio di Asti.
However, they both know that they are not the only ones to thank: Milly, QiQQo’s cat, with her sudden ambushes, lightning-fast paws and indispensable presence on the work table, has been able to convey the energy (and creative chaos) needed to complete this crazy race.
We have joined forces in this project… but without your contribution, the race cannot start!
