How do I get the game?

Il Gioco del Palio di Asti is available as a reward for those who support the project on produzionidalbasso.com. Choose between the Economy or Premium version, depending on the type of contribution.

Can I make an anonymous donation?

Of course. All donations on Produzioni dal Basso are anonymous and visible only to those managing the fundraiser. If you do not want to appear in the Horse of Fame, please write this in the donation notes or send us an email or message via our social media channels.

Where can I collect the game? Is shipping available?

Yes! You can choose to pick it up at one of the distribution points or have it delivered to your home. (In this case, remember to contact us to arrange delivery!)

Click here to check the pickup point’s full list and the interactive map.

When will it be available?

Il Gioco del Palio di Asti will not be sold commercially, but will be distributed as a reward to those who support the project on produzionidalbasso.com. The best way to get it is to participate now and become part of the project! We plan to deliver the first copies in September, but it all depends on how the crowdfunding campaign progresses. When in doubt, the best rule is “first come, first served!”

What is the difference between the Economy version and the Premium version?

The Economy version contains the complete game, but in a budget version: cardboard horses, dice with stickers to apply and rules that can be downloaded via QR code.

The Premium version offers 3D horses, larger ready-made dice, printed rules and an elegant jute bag to hold everything (and draw the starting order!).

Do I need to know about the Palio di Asti to play?

Absolutely not! The game is inspired by Asti tradition, but you can play it even if you don’t know anything about the Palio. In fact, it’s a fun way to discover it!

Can I participate even if I don't live in Asti?

Absolutely! The project is open to everyone, wherever you are. You can make a donation at produzionidalbasso.com and receive the game by shipping.

How long does a game last?

On average, a game lasts about an hour, but the duration can vary depending on the number of players. With 2-3 players, it’s fast-paced, with 9 players it can take a little longer… and if you organise a full Palio with 21 participants, make yourself comfortable!

From what age can you play?

The game is recommended for ages 8 and up. Younger children may find some of the mechanics a little complex, but with the help of an adult, they can give it a try!

How many players can take part?

You can play from 2 to 9 players per game. If there are a lot of players, you can organise a complete Palio with three rounds and a final, just like the real event.
If you want, you can challenge yourself alone by trying to beat your record number of turns! But trust us: the real fun is found when playing with others.

Is it good for playing as a family?

Yes! The game is designed to engage adults and children aged 8 and above. It is perfect for evenings with family, friends or even to introduce younger children to the Palio.

Is the game difficult to learn?

No! After a couple of rounds, you’ll get the hang of it right away. The rules are clear and the pace of the game is intuitive. What’s more, the cards and dice make every game different and exciting.

Can I get a printed copy of the regulations even with the Economy version?

In the Economy version, the regulations are only available in digital format via QR code, but you can easily download and print them at home.

Does every box have the same 3D horses?

No, each set of 3D horses can have different colours, making each box a unique little piece… perfect for collecting too!

What makes the game fun?

cards and a touch of healthy competition between friends! Il Gioco del Palio di Asti combines strategy and luck with plenty of Asti spirit.

Can I get multiple copies of the game?

Yes! You can choose more than one reward on produzionidalbasso.com, or make a larger donation by selecting the bundle options. Check the quantities indicated!

Can I customise my copy of the game?

There are no official customisations available, but there’s nothing stopping you from adding your own personal touch to the dice, horses or cards once you receive the game. The important thing is not to cheat!

Will there be reprints in the future?

For now, we are focusing on this special 750th anniversary edition. Any news or reprints will be announced on our website, in our newsletter and at events.

Will there be an expansion or new content?

Who knows? The project is constantly evolving, and if support is strong, we may consider expansions, game variants, or extra content in the future!

We will continuously update this section, also thanks to your feedback.

Can I attack a horse that has already crossed the finish line?

Yes! A horse that has crossed the finish line can still be targeted by opponents’ cards, provided that the attack takes place during the same round in which it reached the finish line and only if the card used allows it.

In practice: until all players have completed their turn, even the winner remains in play… and vulnerable!

Can I use the Banana Ciucca card if my horse is already close to the outer edge of the track?

Yes, you can use the Banana Ciucca card even if your horse is already in the outermost lane. The card can always be activated when it is possible to change lanes or when you are already in the outermost lane (yes, even on a bend!).

Important note: normally, the Banana Ciucca card can only be played on a bend if it allows you to reach the straight within the first 3 forward moves. In this particular case, as you are already in the outer lane, it can be used.

As we say: the Banana Ciucca is an excellent antidote to the Carota Marcia!

Can I use the Biada Magica card if I am on a bend?

Yes, you can use the Biada Magica card even if your horse is on a bend! In this case, you will move to the innermost lane, the one with a single box.

This is the only case in the entire game where you are allowed to change lanes while on a bend, and this is where the Hay (Biada) really becomes… Magic!

What if the inner lane is already occupied?
If the destination square is already occupied by another horse, you will move to the first available outer lane, maintaining the same “horizontal” position as yours: if you are in the first half of the bend, you will end up in an equivalent square in the first half; if you are in the second half, you will remain in the second half.

A very rare case:
If you are in one of the central squares of the odd lanes (e.g. 7th lane) and the first two inside lanes are already occupied, you will remain in the central square but move to the first free inside lane.
Example: you are in the 7th lane, central square, and lanes 1 and 2 are occupied → you move to the 3rd lane, same central square.

When I exchange a card, do I have to follow a particular order?

No, the player who exchanges the card can do so in any order he prefers: he can draw the card from his opponent and decide which card to give up based on what he finds, he can decide which card to give up before taking it from his opponent, or he can do everything blindfolded.

The only thing he cannot do is return the card he has taken, otherwise he will not win the Palio for 7 games! (unless he has 3 Duello cards in his hand and draws Duello from his opponent, in which case it is inevitable).

I've already had my turn as Girlo in the hole, now I've thrown the Race Die but I haven't reached the straight yet... do I have to go back to being Girlo?

Yes, indeed: unlucky player, stuck horse!
As long as it is active, if the arrival square is still inside the curve, you fall back into the hole and return to Girlo, even if you were already in the curve before the throw.

If everything is clear now, it’s the perfect time to get your copy of the game!
