The Story

Original edition of Il Gioco el Palio di Asti

A long run

Il Gioco del Palio di Asti was not created overnight: it is the result of years of passion, trials, refinements and a great desire to present the Palio in a new way.

The initial idea and the first editions

The idea took shape in the early 2000s thanks to Massimo “MaxLaz” Lazzarino, an inventor from Asti who created board games, card games and street games, which were popular in youth oratories and village festivals. A major step forward was taken in 2008, when Lazzarino collaborated with Francesco “QiQQo” Pellitteri, a graphic designer from Asti, who transformed the idea into a real board game ready to play.
A small print run of 250 copies was produced, which over time became a cult object for fans of the Palio and the game. The passion never stopped: in 2021, the two authors published a collector’s reprint, with only 25 numbered and autographed copies, which sold out in no time. This was followed by a second mini-series of 35 copies, which was also in high demand.

The new 2025 edition

And today, in 2025, on the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the first historical source about the Palio di Asti, the time has finally come to share the game with a wider audience.
This new edition, patronised by Città di Asti, maintains the original spirit but introduces new features in the rules, materials and graphics.

The extra touch? It is signed by Fabio “Febus” Maiolo, an illustrator from Asti who has breathed new life into the game with a lively, ironic style that respects our traditions, designing all the components of the game, from the box to the 3D horses.

We don’t know what the future holds for Il Gioco del Palio di Asti,
but in the meantime, we have just one piece of advice: don’t miss it!
